the hong kong arts development awards 2011 – award for best artist (visual arts) in 2012.
his “lanwei” series was collected by M+ museum, hong kong in 2013.

artist statement
red, white and blue signify freedom, equality and fraternity.
the yellow stars are the party, the working class, the peasantry, the urban petite bourgeoisie and the national bourgeoisie…
the colours and images on the national flags are the symbols of the utopian dreams and ideals of the nations.
yet, once manifested in the international economic and political context, the “countries” represented by the 193 national flags, become engaged in an unending contest of status, power, contention and even conflict.
the source of man’s wisdom, after flowing through millions of years, has extended, expanded, and diversified into countless estuaries of cultures, histories and civilizations.
can this wisdom, concordant yet varied, be renewed and practised in the global village of today?
can we set aside the cultures, histories and ethnicity that divide and in mutual acceptance, unite under the spirits of our national flags, and begin a dialogue on the subject of “you” and “i”…
紅白藍是自由、平等、博愛。
黃星是黨、工人、農民、城市小資產階級和民族資產階級之團結…
各國國旗上的顏色，圖像都象徵着烏托邦的理想和目標。
但落到國與國之間的概念，經濟、政治角度，一百九十三支國旗所代表的「國」
就變得沒完沒了的身份，權力、角力以至紛爭。
人的智慧由來，千萬年分流後之文化，歷史百花齊放，
這和而不同的精神，可否重新在今日地球村派上用場？
暫且收起各自文化、歷史、民族底蘊，
將大家國旗來一次解構共融，以同一語境對話，
面對何謂「你」和「我」的課題上面…
